Nicole Millar Interview
I find an artists creative process very intriguing. My level of creativity doesn’t stem that far at all. Where does Nicole draw hers from? Bring on YouTube, Pinterest, collecting art & today’s outfit was somewhat brought to you by the Spice Girls and the movie Clueless. LOVE.
So rumour has it, you just got back from a writing trip overseas, whereabouts did you go?
I was away for two months and I was in Sweden for about three weeks and then I went to America for the rest of that. I was pretty much writing every single day. I’m currently writing an album, there’s so many different ideas. So that takes a bit of time.
When you went overseas, did you have something in mind that you wanted to write about? Or did the trip provide inspiration for you to create new music?
I’m inspired more visually. I get a lot of artwork before hand, or I scroll through Tumblr or Pinterest and maybe an image will spark an idea. I write by myself in my car or in my bed. Pretty much from silence or boredom come my ideas.
Is the creative process different when you’re planning live shows, compared to when you’re writing music?
That’s a very good question. I’ve always been inspired by other artists. I like watching a lot of other artists on YouTube. I’ve been watching a lot of Halsey at the moment, just because I think she’s a very good performer. And I love MØ. I look at a lot of live videos like that and it inspires me.
If you could collaborate with any other artists at the moment, who would it be?
I’m really trying at the moment to get Party in the Storm on one of my tracks. He followed me on twitter not long ago and so I’ve been hassling him with “Hey”. Haha he’s probably getting annoyed by that.
As you’re aware, LoveBusk has followed you on social media for some time now. What I love about your content is it represents you. There’s a balance of unedited images as well as those taken from publicity shoots. How do you become resilient to all of the BS comments that are occasionally written?
Haha Oh you mean the trolling? I’m kind of fine with that now. When I was younger I was bullied for my music. So because I went through that at a young age. I now look online and I think people just do it to get attention. But I think it’s funny. So I reply to them straight away and then they delete the comment or say sorry.
If you could perform or stream live from anywhere, where would you choose?
I’ve always wanted to perform at Coachella, because there is so much hype around it and I love the fashion there.
What was the first album you every bought?
It was the Spice Girls album, and I think they’ve inspired my fashion today. And I was definitely inspired by Clueless for the fashion.
